Hi all. Not too concerned with the value. I was wondering if these were hard to come by or fairly common?

I did have what it was, but couldn't find much else about it. Just so I know where to put it.

Hi Arls,

This is the Transvaal 1905 1 penny scarlet - SG 274.

Value about 10p. Worth a quick check of the watermark - this common stamp with inverted watermark is listed in my 2004 Stanley Gibbons at 250 pounds.

Thank you for that. I'm not sure about "inverted" etc. One of the many things I have to learn about. I think this pic shows the watermark OK.

Alas, if you scanned the stamp upright, then it's the ordinary SG 274, and still rated at 10p. The inverted watermark is now at 275 pounds, and the error with the Cape of Good Hope watermark instead of the Multiple Crown CA is 325 pounds.

Good scan - shows the watermark clearly.

As Tony says, this is not inverted (upside down).

I don't use the scanner, mainly as it's not set to my P.C.

I prefer to use the camera. Only set back is Can't take pics at night. Thanks again for the info Appreciated.

Transvaal stamps like any other country have scarce items and common ones. This is a common item and is from the final days of the transvaal.

Is this the only item you have? if so would you like a few more to make up a mini collection?

My brother gave me some albums, but the stamps in them, and the books pages are all rusted.

I will be getting some new albums from Glen, but that won't be for a few more months.

Could I take a raincheck on this until I have the new albums?

I thought I might have done that as well, but I remember when I first sent it, it said RECIPIENT..COLIN.

I have been having a few problems with my normal emails as well,(people not getting them) so might have to re-check my settings.
